  The concept of marriage encompasses several realities: * Marriage is both a personal act and a social act. * This union can be civil when it is recorded by a registrar appointed by the state or religious when it is recorded by the priest of a religion. * Marriage is always a commitment for an unlimited period, with the possibility of rupture, either by separation or by divorce. It is not accepted by some religions, like Catholicism. Marriage means in principle a community of life, sex (the "conjugal duty"), their inability or refusal may be, by country and period, a cause for annulment or divorce.
